Circulation Policies for Students
You must have a valid SLC ID card to borrow from the main library and you are responsible for knowing what items you have borrowed and when these items are due. Log into your library account for a list of checked out items with dates due.
The loan period for books and audiotapes held in the circulating collection is one semester, however, items can be recalled at any time after a two-week period and MUST be returned by the new due date indicated. DVDs and videotapes usually have a loan period of seven days and may also be recalled. There are also some DVDs and videos with a loan period of 5 hours. Renewals must be requested in person with the books in hand.
Interlibrary loan items can be borrowed for a month at a time with renewal for a second month possible.
Reserve items usually circulate for three hours at a time; however items borrowed within three hours of closing are due back the next day at 10 AM, Monday-Friday, and 12:30 PM, Saturday and Sunday. In the case of these special overnight loans, you should keep in mind that closed hours WILL count for fines if the loans are returned late.
- $0.20/day for overdue books and tapes
- $1.00/day for overdue 1 week-DVDs and videos
- $1.00/day for overdue interlibrary loans
- $0.50/hour for overdue 5 hour-DVDs and videos
- $0.50/hour for overdue reserve items

Reserve fines are $.50 per hour ($12.00/day) and fines for recalled books are $3.00 per day. There is no fine cap and library privileges may be suspended until the item is returned. Failure to return overdue reserves or recalls is a serious offense and a violation of the College’s Policy on Academic Integrity; as such, it may be reported to the Dean of Studies Office.
Notification about overdues, recalls and items for pickup will be sent via SLC email only.
No notices will be sent to on-campus mail boxes.
