Friends of the Library

In 1975, a group of community members met to discuss the creation of an organization to support and promote the Esther Raushenbush Library of Sarah Lawrence College. Since then, for the past forty years, the Friends have forged lasting connections between the College and the nearby community through its programs and publications.

Through the year, the Friends sponsor faculty presentations in the form of mini-courses and lectures; present outside speakers and events of interest to the community; and directly support and enhance the Library’s resources through membership dues and financial contributions. Within the past two years, they have provided funds to help purchase academic databases and documentary films.

An annual membership includes borrowing privileges in both the main library and the William Schuman Music Library located in the Marshall Field Music Building. It is important to know also that the Visual Resources Library digital collection located in the Heimbold Visual Arts Building with over 40,000 images is available to the Friends when they are on campus. On-site access to over 90 online full-text and citation databases, admission to lectures and special events, and a subscription to the Friends newsletter published three times a year are also included services.

We would like to encourage you to join us in our programs, and in our love of books and learning. Become a Friend of the Library this year, and be as generous a Friend as you can be!
