Database search terms may vary from database to database according to collection specialization. Creator Name or Culture, Geographic Location or Repository, and Title are common searchable record fields shared among many databases.
Visual Resources Digital Library searchable terms in the records data fields are derived from Getty Thesauri controlled vocabularies. In addition to Creator Name and Geographic Location, Getty vocabularies are also used to describe Disciplines (Class) and Techniques, and their material derivatives, in the Performing and Visual Arts, Architecture, and Material Culture production. Thematic/Genre Concepts are also represented in the collection and are derived from Getty vocabulary hierarchies.
For example, an Italian villa or a Germanic Spangenhelm may have, in addition to the Creator Name or Culture, Title, Date, and Geographic Location, a combination of the following searchable terms attached to the records data fields:
